Ascend providing agile principles and mindset
Customers today are hard to please, and they expect fast and customized adaption of different services and products. To meet these increased expectations, our client wanted to emphasize the customer journey by initiating an agile transformation. The aim was to increase speed in creating value in the IT development to shorten time to market in the commerce channels, both in-store and online.
A structural and behavioural change was vital in reaching the wanted state. First, to enable people from different levels and areas within the organization to shift towards an agile mindset and cross-functional abilities, where hierarchy and silos were replaced by autonomy, collaboration, and decentralized decision-making.
The previous delivery model within IT development was divided into several different functions, where in-house resources and suppliers work separately in many aspects. Therefore, an essential driver in the transformation was to bring these functions closer together and remove barriers that slow down the delivery pipeline and at the same time establish communication processes and feedback loops to establish transparency throughout the organization.
Ascend supported the organization in driving the transformation by providing agile principles, processes and methodology to build cross-functional teams that deliver value, independently and together. The transformation process inspired by various agile frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum and Kanban was paired with the organization’s internally expressed purpose and guiding principles to “be better together” and make the most of all 5,000 people in the organization.
The project resulted in three key outcomes:
- A foundation to continue the journey of creating value to customers faster and in a sustainable way
- A fundamental change in ways of working with more focus on collaboration and alignment
- New teams, processes, tools and principles established within the organization
